In Tanzania, motorcycles are called, “pikipikis,” allegedly after the sound the machines make. In the past five years, the number of motorcycles in Tanzania has surged. Although pikipiki’s can be inexpensive, rapid transportation on the congested roads of Tanzania, they are also very dangerous. Many riders do not wear helments, while others have no formal training in riding or safety, leading them to be considered a ‘menace’ on the streets.
